| DERRY | 1994 - 1999 |
| OVERVIEW Asterix are a four piece from Co. Derry. They began their lives as Killing Joke-loving, thrash-pop merchants and have played together in various incarnations since 1994. Maturity and trips abroad encouraged them to mellow out and Donal, Vincent, Frankie and Darren regrouped as four vocally-driven, melancholic pop craftsmen, producing work of great beauty and emotional intensity. The band signed to Schism Records in 1997, and during their short time with the label they have released two EPs, Laura Loves’ & ‘Shes’ so young’, both of which were made Single of the Fortnight in Hot Press. Laura Loves, in particular, received major airplay in Ireland and won Best Song in the Hot Press Bacardi Unplugged competition. They also did a session for the infamous Dave Fanning Show. 1999 has been a very busy year for Asterix. The first single ‘ Pulse’, which was taken from their debut album ‘I Know Your Soul’ was playlisted for 4 weeks on Xfm, plus recieved support at GLR, Virgin, & Radio One. The video, which was filmed in New York, got extensive plays on Irish TV Shows like NO DISCO, POP ON 3 and the DEN 2. Their debut album ‘I Know Your Soul’ was released in June to great reviews and saw the band make major moves into the UK. To support the release Asterix embarked on an extensive acoustic radio tour of Ireland & UK during June & July. The UK tour took in 15 different stations as well as various instore shows and regional press interviews including the Melody Maker. Asterix also fitted in a BBC Radio One Evening session as part of the new ‘Session from N.Ireland’. The band are in the studio at present recording a new single to be released before the end of the year. Finally, Asterix will be releasing a dance remix of ‘I Have’ in Oct, the original version is on their current album. Biography taken from : Schism Records Website |
