PORTRANE, CO. DUBLIN 2005 - 2009, 2009 -
OVERVIEW
Delorenos is a 4-piece alternative rock band from Portrane, Co. Dublin. The group had performed in other projects before coming together as Delorentos. The group found their inspiration from groups like the Pixies, The Cure and The Clash. However, the band itself has always produced a more melodic style of indie-pop combined with infectious choruses. The band announced its arrival on the scene by winning the UK and Irish final of the National Student Music Awards in 2005. Shortly after this, the band self-released its debut EP, 'Leave It On'. The record charted in the Irish Top 30 at Number 24. Even though the band was still in its infancy, they were invited to participate in the fourth series of Other Voices - Songs From A Room, which was recorded in St. James Church in Dingle and broadcast on RTE television in the Spring of 2006.

The band went on to release a string of other singles including 'The Rules' and 'The Basis Of Everything' before their debut album 'In Love With Detail' in April 2007. The album was very well received and found its way into the Irish Top 10. The record also found favour with the critics and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize. 2008 also the record nominated in the Best Irish Album category at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards. The band was also nominated in the Best Irish Band category. While the year started brightly, it was to get more difficult for the band. A potential record deal fell through at the last minute while their distribution company collapse preventing the release of the album in the UK.

In February 2009, the band announced that they were to split. However, they planned to complete the recording of their second album and play a number of farewell gigs. The new came as a shock to the music public and fans alike. The band went ahead with the recording sessions. The process had a galvinising effect on the guys and, in April, they announced that they had changed their mind and would not aplit after all. The remainder of the year saw the band release the classic singles 'You Can Make Sound' and 'S.E.C.R.E.T.' as well as their second long player, 'You Can Make Sound'.

The group's next record, 'Little Sparks' was released in January 2012 and featured the singles 'Little Sparks', 'Right To Know', 'Care For' and 'Bullet In A Gun'. Like it's predecessors, the album also entered the Irish Top 10. In early 2013, 'Little Sparks' won the Choice Music Prize.

To coincide with Record Store Day 2014, Delorentos released 'Unbroken, Untied' which was a collection of 13 acoustic tracks. The was a very limited release of 147 copies.

The band's most recent album, 'Night Becomes Light' was released in October 2014.
