| Recovering manfully from the loss of original
member Robert Hamilton to the recently formed
Peace Now movement in Northern Ireland, The
Fat Lady Sings have kicked back
into action with a fine follow-up to 1989's
much-ignored debut, Twist. Songwriter and
frontman Nick Kelly bosses the show as ever,
rattling off terse moody ballads and unhinged
driven rockers with equal poise. Producer
Steve Osborne has added an edge to the sound
without losing the clarity and coolness of
the melodies, and with songs as polished,
focused and complete as Boil, Show Of Myself,
Stealing A Plane and the lingering ballads
Drunkard Logic and Providence, The Fat Lady
Sings find themselves rapping impatiently
on the oak-panelled door marked Close To
Greatness. |
