THE PITCH : If the name oozes confidence, then the music has sprung a leak. Dublin's Fixed Stars are not stopping until they reach the top, and once there it's bathtubs of bubbly for all. Their single 'Here Comes The Music' ("It's a chorus all the way through," says singer Mark, and he ain't lyin'), is less a statement of intent than a brazen hand whipping off the startled grey knickers of indie. Remember "Wake Up!"-era Boo Radleys? You Will. Tracks from the forthcoming album, 'Illegitimate Targets' , combine shimmy-tastic pop with slyly acerbic lyrics from life's dingy alleyways. "The music's so happy-sounding that it throws people when they hear the dark lyrics." says Mark. But he doesn't just have an ear cocked towards the cries of the crestfallen - he's got a glass against the hotel wall of fame. "I'm gonna sleep my way to the top! Pop stars fascinate me. We're a pop band - we're gonna do all the Saturday morning shows. I've always badly wanted to be on 'Top Of The Pops'. Icontemplated doing a Eurovision entry just to get on there. We're thinking of getting some choreographers in so that we can dance like B*Witched." So, a vicious line in social commentary and tunes covered in blowtorched sugar? Tastes like sticky success. What's the plan? "I'm gonna branch out and get a supergroup together. Shane MacGowan, Billie and Andrea Corr, called Buck Teeth. Although Andrea might need a smack in the mouth first."
