1992 - 2005

OVERVIEW The Holsteins was an indie-rock band from Belfast. The band was formed in 1992 after the breakup of Firehouse the previous year. In Peter Major [Guitar], Davy Burton [Burton], Stew McDowall [Bass Guitar] and Brian McNamara [Drums], that band contained four fifths of what would be come The Holsteins. All they were missing was a vocalist. This came in the form of one Niamh Rooney. The band recorded a couple of demos and were eventually signed by German label, Bullet! Records. In October 1994, the group released its debut album, 'Angel Train'. This was a vinyl only release. The album was well received. Bullet! were keen to release more material. With this in mind, The Holsteins recorded a set of songs in the Summer of 1995. These were released as the 'Pop-Gun Riot' EP in March 2006. The Summer of 2006 saw the band go through a personnell change with Chris Birt replacing Stew McDowall on Bass. The band released a further album, 'Sub Rosa' in February of 1997 and a further album, 'Dodge The Ground' is known to have been released in 2003. The details of this final release are limited.
