The hormones release their much anticipated second single, 'Stay Ahead', on the V2 label on March 2nd 1998. 'Stay Ahead', which lands somewhere between Teenage Fanclub and Stiff Little Fingers, is the follow up to the band's 1997 début single, 'This Is The Sound', which heralded the return of former Puppy Love Bomb frontman Marc Carroll with his new band the hormones. 'Good to Know You', 'Patterns' and 'Tired Old Souls', the three additional tracks offer further invaluable insight into the full, astonishing depth of Marc Carroll's songwriting skills and diverse musical influences. The tracks were recorded at Great Linford Manor, and produced by Steve Power (Babybird, Robbie Williams). 'Stay Ahead', released March 2nd, is taken from the hormones' début album, 'Where Old Ghosts Meet', due for release in May 1998. The Hormones emerged from the ashes of Dublin 3-piece Puppy Love Bomb, melodic noise-pups who signed to Rough Trade and had a strong line in confrontational imagery and sloganeering (remember the 'Dublin Is Dead' t-shirts?). Puppy Love Bomb released three singles to critical acclaim and indifferent public response and were invited by underground noise icon Bob Mould to 'special guest' on the Sugar tour. Marc broke up the band in 1995 and went on to form the hormones. "Name dropping and talent spotting for 1998...so what you've never heard of them, this time next year you'll be queuing up outside HMV for tickets for the Irish leg of their world-wide tour."

What a song! Marc Carroll’s Hormones continue to strive for that maximum pop high with this warm tribute to the right honourable Brian Wilson. A simple and sincere doff of the cap to the blue-eyed genie of the West Coast, it’s carried along on a wave of boyish enthusiasm and the sort of undulating melodies and beautiful multi-layered harmony vocals that can only be described as imitations of immortality. If there are discmans in heaven, I'm taking this one with me.
