1998 - 2005

OVERVIEW #King Sativa was a Dublin-based reggae band which was active for the best part of a decade between 1998 and 2005. The group featured Liam Nolan [Vocals & Guitar], Damien Clanny [Guitar], Derek Clabby [Bass Guitar & Keyboards], Gary O'Brien [Percussion], Graham Birney [Guitar], Anthony Kenny [Drums] and Richard Broderick-Hayes [Keyboards]. The collective came together out of a shared love of the music of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh amongst others. #King Sativa made its recorded bow later that year. The band recorded 'As Long As I Have You' along with Notch. The composition was included on the 'Natural Born Elvis' compilation along with contributions from some of the biggest names on the Irish music scene including An Emotional Fish, Whipping Boy, Blink and Engine Alley. The band released its debut single, 'Feels So Good' in 2001 on Donkey Jawbone Records. The bands first long player arrived later that year on the same imprint. 'We Did Then' featured the group's earlier single as well as ten other tracks. One of these 'Where Do You Stand' was featured on the 'It's All Good' compilation later that year. In 2003, the band performed at the 'Hard Working Class Heroes' Festival in Dublin. The following year, the band released its second (and last) album. The eponymously-titled record included tracks such as 'If I'm Lost' and 'I Know You Do'. The band split in 2005. Graham went on to work with The Bionic Rats and the award-winning hip-hop band The Infomatics. He later joined The Specials tribute band The Very Specials. Anthony also went on to join The Bionic Rats.
