DUBLIN | SOUTH AFRICA 2009 -
OVERVIEW
The Koubas is a 4-piece rock band based in Dublin. The group takes it name from Jakub Kouba Was, their South African drummer. The story goes that Stevie Ryan met Jakub while travelling in South Africa. The pair hit it off and they started playing and writing together. Ryan tried convincing Jakub to return to Dublin with him. Was agreed but jokingly on the basis that the band was named after him. He got his wish. In early 2009, The Koubas was formed with Peter King [Bass Guitar] joining Stevie and Jakub.

In 2010, the band started to work on its debut album. During this period, the trio recruited Robin Cahill [Keyboards, Guitar & Backing Vocals] to give The Koubas a more complete sound. The recording of the album was completed in May 2011. In August of that year, a debut single, 'Get Over Yourself' was released as a digital download. This served as a precursor to the debut album. 'Things I Don't Like To Talk About' which followed a month later. The record was well received with the band illustrating a fine ability to write catchy rock-pop tunes.
