BALLINTEER, DUBLIN 1994 - 2001
OVERVIEW
Revelino was a critically acclaimed band based on Dublin's south side. The group came together in about 1994 after the demise of an earlier project. That band, The Coletranes featured Brendan Tallon [Vocals & Guitar], Bren Berry [Guitar & Vocals] and Shane Rafferty [Drums]. The group recruited Alan Montgomery [ex-The Dixons, Fever Train and The Fallen Angels] on bass guitar with Brendan's brother, Ciaran Tallon completing the line up. The band has often referenced the likes of The Pixies, Echo And The Bunnymen and Leonard Cohen as influences. As for the band itself, Revelino's sound is a combination of swirling guitar and spiraling vocals. It's fair to say that the band created its own unique sound.

The band released its self-title debut album in 1994. The record featured stand out tracks such as the excellent 'Happiness Is Mine' and 'Don't Lead Me Down'. Bown of those tracks became singles in their own right in 1995. The following year saw the band release the 'Step On High' single. It later emerged that this was one of John Peel's favourite tracks. 1996 also saw the band reveal its second full length album. The band's sound was heavier than on the previous release. By this time, they had built an international following. In May 1996, the band performed 'Happiness Is Mine' on French TV show 'Nulle Part Ailleurs'.

When the classic Irish movie 'I Went Down' featuring Brendan Gleeson was released in 1997, it was no great surprise that Revelino featured on the soundtrack. They contributed their single 'Don't Lead Me Down' to the soundtrack which also included the likes of Lir.

However, by this stage cracks were beginning to appear in the fabric of the band. By the time the badn went into the studio to record its final album, Revelino was a three piece featuring the brothers Tallon and Bren Berry. That final record, 'To The End' appeared in 2001 and Brendan has often said that its their best work. The band fizzled out some time after this. Brendan and Shane later cropped up in BeatClub. In 2012, Brendan Tallon re-emerged as one half of Saturday Captains along with Barry O'Mahony [ex-Luggage]
