Aldebaran Independent

While its true that Aldebaran never strays off the white line down the middle of the road, as a big ol conventional rock song its hard to beat. This is a song which yearns to be played on eight track, a song that craves check shirts, cloudless skies and an endless stretch of telegraph poles vanishing, finally, among the heat haze of the horizon.

A mid-tempo, country flavoured rocker featuring some excellent janggly guitar and deft piano work, what it lacks in innovation it makes up for with an air of supreme confidence and solid musicianship. All this, however, is sadly let down somewhat by routine production courtesy of Kevin Shirley (Rocket From The Crypt, Silverchair - that should tell you something). Dense when it should be wide open, heavy handed when it should be breezily reflective, it seems at odds with the spirit of the song. Which is a shame, as The Revenants have the obvious ability to go places and, given a producer that allows their songs to breathe, theres no reason why they shouldnt. In the meantime, both Aldebaran and The Revenants are worth investigating.
