Wilt
Bastinado
(Mushroom/CD)

There's a happy little genre known as Power Pop that's given us some superb albums over the past few years. The Fountains Of Wayne brought us their delightful self-titled debut in 1996, Bob Mould contributed 'The Last Dog And Pony Show' in 1998 and 1999 gave us 'Almond Tea' by Pugwash and Jason Falkner's 'Can You Still Feel?'

Wilt carry on the vibe with one of the best Irish relaeases to come our way this year. 'Bastinado' includes the previous three singles and eight other highly charged guitar tunes.

Much is made of their former selves (Kerbdog) so catchy still remains, the main difference is that it's all rounded off with a warmer and more approachable finish.

You'd wonder when you listen to albums such as this why people are so eager to forecast rock's imminent doom Wilt haven't come up with anything that's going to change the face of music, but what's here is too good to be ignored.
