DUBLIN 2001 -
OVERVIEW
Goodtime John (or Goodtime, by which he is now known) is the musical alias of John Cowhie. He has been active on the Dublin scene for many years having played with the alternative rock band Deadman's Flats in the late 1990s. The group also featured Steve Fanagan [Old Man Polka, Northstation, Maersk, Wrecking Ball, Moose Eats Leaf] and Tim O'Donovan [46 Long, Settler, Neosupervital]. He then went on to peform with 46 Long for a period before going solo and assuming the Goodtime John Moniker. His style is a mixture of pop, folk and rock overlaid with mellow vocals.

He made his recorded debut in 2001 with the release of the 'No Mundane Options' EP on 10" Vinyl through Julius Geezer Records. Over the following years, he released a string of singles and two full length albums - 'Brought Four Ways Out Of Town' [2002] and 'I'll Sing 'Til The Sun Turns Cold' [2004]. Notable amongst these was 'Handmade With Ears'. The four track EP was the third release on Steve Fanagan's fledgling Slow Loris label.

For most of the second half of the 2000s, things were quiet on the Goodtime John front as he focused his attention on completing a degree in design.

In 2009, Cowhie returned tot he fray with the release of the 'Dark Slipped Its Cloak' EP whch was made available as a free download. This was the final release to used the Goodtime John name. By the time his next single, 'One Shot' was released in March 2011, he was known simply as Goodtime. However, Cowhie has lost none of his vitality. A further single, 'Behind The Sun' followed in October of that year before the release of his 'The Colours Of Darkness' album a few weeks later.

In the wake of the album release, a series of remixes of tracks from the album were completed under the name 'Whispers Of The Departed'. For details of these remixes, click here. The tracks were made available as limited downloads from Soundcloud.
